Lango gives eight pupils a chance to get acquainted with their future occupation

Today, on February 21 at 11 a.m. pupils from Madona secondary school No. 1 have arrived at the company Lango within the frame of Junior Achievement – Latvia occupational guidance activity “Job Shadow Day”. Their purpose is to learn themselves and get familiar with everyday work of their planned occupation in order to make a right decision.

During the excursion, eight pupils of Madona secondary school No. 1 will get to know the company’s activity, after which they will learn the routine work of the Board chairman, sales, marketing, purchasing, production, accounting financial and public relation departments, and their managers. Within the frame of “Job Shadow Day” the pupils will take part in the testing of enterprise products; furthermore, a discussion about impressions and the information learnt will conclude the day.

The chairman of the Board of Ltd Lango Andrejs Fraimanis says: “We take with responsibility this opportunity to establish a partnership between a school, society and working environment, and to show how interesting and exciting the production sphere might be in a flourishing and modern enterprise, where representatives of different occupations work for one goal - to produce qualitative, delicious, and health-harmless food.” “It is a chance for pupils to become acquainted with their occupation and to make the right choice, and for employers to meet their future employee.”

“Participation in “job shadow” days is an essential activity because thus today's pupils have an opportunity to meet the daily work life in the enterprise, producing food products.” Food industry sector is one of the most significant in Latvian national economy, and it needs its own specialists. It is particularly important now, when many people are leaving to work abroad. Latvian Federation of Food Enterprises (LPUF) considers that Latvian food enterprises create attractive working environment right here – at home, in Latvia”, emphasizes LUPF executing director Arlita Sedmale.

The vice-principal of Madona secondary school No. 1 Rudite Zauska also admits the significance of this project: “Often pupils’ idea of occupations and position duties is formed on the basis of experience learnt from their families, friends, television, and municipal institutions.” “Job Shadow Day” offers to disclose slightly a real labour market possibility, encourage pupils to put forward higher aims, and to try to reach them. On this day teenagers will become acquainted with the work specifics of chosen occupation, establish contacts, make certain of their choice, and meet specialists in the chosen occupation."
